Christmas Smile

Christmas Smile animation I created

The first thing I done for this assignment was read the brief that had been set by the client.

From the brief I found out that I was creating promotional animation clip for Action for Happiness, the message was Smile.

Brainstorm of what I found

Next, I had to brainstorm what i found from the brief, this being that the client is Action for Happiness, the target audience was elderly people that are alone at christmas time and the requirements are to create a two minute animated product to make people smile. I also brainstormed my idea and some scene/character ideas

Brainstorm summary from questionnaire

Next i created a questionnaire to get information about what makes people smile, this would help me to develop my animation and get new ideas of what I could add.

Research about animation and illusion of animation

Next I done some research on how animation works and the illusion of animation. I found out that animation is a form of creative media where figures appear as moving images.

Research about stop motion and 3D animation

I then done some research about two different animation techniques. I chose to research stop motion as this was most likely what i would use and I chose to research 3D animation as it was different to stop motion.

Animation script

Script for the animation

It was finally time to create the script, I added a grid format to a word document and had an audio and a video side where I described each scene and the audio that goes with it.

animation storyboard

Storyboard for the animation

Next I had to create a storyboard to show my scene ideas and how they would flow together. I printed off 4 pages that both had two boxes on, i then drew eight scenes and described the visual and the audio that was on that scene.

Final animation

Here is my final animation for this project. I created it while I was self isolating so I didn't have the best resources. To create it i had to set up a scene with a white background and a fireplace, I then built a christmas tree out of clay and slowly built a snowman out of clay too. I then made the snowman move by moving it a little bit and then taking a photo each time. The final product had over 200 images which all added up to create this small video.
