Personal Statement

I've always been passionate about Photography. Not just the creative side of generating images, but also the impact photos have on people's lives. Being in a dark room creating light drawings to being in the wilderness, zoomed in on a fox, I get a huge sense of achievement using my imagination to create my images.

Photography has interested me for over a decade. As a kid, I was always grabbing my mum's phone and taking photos of things from sunsets to our cat. The subject allows me to use my creativity to take pictures and communicate a message through the images. Photography is very accessible to people today as there is always a camera near them. However, I believe there is a deeper meaning of it and how it can be used to impact peoples lives with just an image.

I consider myself suitable for the course as I have an incredible passion for photography and I am driven for a career in the industry. I want to widen my scope and experience as the industry is constantly growing and before technology becomes more accessible to people. I want to be a part of a growing industry that could capture someone's or something's special moment.

I took photography as a GCSE subject in secondary school and was able to explore photography a bit deeper. In my current college course, we have explored some photography aspects, but have not explored them as much I hoped.

I can adapt to any situation, whether that be a location change or a network problem, I will try my hardest to get my work completed and handed in.

Previously, I done some work experience for my college course with a company called Dragonfly Yoga. Some of the tasks they gave me were to take portraits of the staff for their website, to design a new layout for their website and to create a poster design to advertise the business.

One of the skills I learned during this work experience was time management, I had to be at the yoga studio at 10am, I lived two trains away from the studio and had to manage my time on my journey there. One of the days it was snowing heavily and the trains were disrupted. I was able to get to the studio on time as I left my house earlier.

Currently, I am working in retail at HomeBargains. I have been here since the start of March 2020. I have a wide range of responsibilities at this job, these include stacking shelves, a cashier, rebuild and warehouse duties. Working here has enabled me to develop my time management skills further and encouraged me to make sure I am on time. I also like to make sure I complete my tasks within the timescales set. Another useful skill I have learned here is communication, being able to talk to customers on the till and to help them find what they are looking for in the store. A vital skill I have learned here is handling money, I am trusted to give out the correct change and check that the money handed over is genuine.

These experiences have made me see the value of being a part of a work environment and they have taught me a lot about the working life and the importance of community.

I have a few routes planed for after this course. One of these is to become a sports photographer, I would go to games and take photos of players for the clubs social medias. Another route I have planned is to become a product photographer. A third and final route I have planned is to become a freelance photographer, where I can start my own photography business and hopefully sell prints of my work.
